Grab a Grand Cash Cube

You step into the clear tank, the door shuts, and a blower fires a whirlwind of vouchers up around you. The digital timer on top counts down from about thirty seconds while you grab as much as you can out of the air and drop it in the box. Most people will recognise it from the Crystal Dome at the end of the Crystal Maze, and that is more or less the idea, brought down to a size that fits on a stand.

It is a cylindrical booth, around 1.2m across and 2.2m tall, with a polished chrome frame, clear acrylic walls and a hinged door. A colour-change LED ring lights the inside, and we can set it to a single fixed colour to match your branding. The unit is made in the UK by Game Works Creative, and we own and maintain ours in-house, so it turns up tested and ready to run.

You will see it called a cash cube, a cash grabber, a money machine or a money booth. It is the same thing under all those names.

What you fill it with, and branding

The draw is whatever is flying around inside, and you decide what that is. You do not have to put real money in, and most people do not. It works better with lightweight printed vouchers or tokens, because you control who wins. You can drop a few winning tokens in among blanks, print your own branded notes, or fill it with gift vouchers so every grab is worth something. Whatever someone catches and drops in the box is theirs.

The tank panel and the leaderboard both take your artwork, printed and applied by our in-house team. We ran it for Amazon's Peak Tour Challenge across their UK sites, wrapped as the "Cash Grabber" with a daily leaderboard chalked up at each one as people came off shift to have a go. There is more on our branding service.

A queue that does not go down

The tank does the work of pulling a crowd. People stop to watch someone flail about grabbing at vouchers, then they want a go themselves, and that is your queue. If you run a leaderboard next to it our magnetic scoreboard keeps the top scores up where players can see them, which keeps them coming back to beat it.

Such a great idea for our event. The queues for the grabber never went down all night. The branding done for us looked great and service fab from start to finish.

That was Verity Watson, after we branded one up for her event.

Common Questions

Do we put real money in it?

You can, but most people do not. The blower throws lightweight printed vouchers or tokens around the tank, and you decide what counts as a win. It is more common to salt a few winning tokens in among blanks, or to fill it with gift vouchers or your own branded notes, so you keep control of the prizes rather than handing out cash at random.

Is it the same machine as the Ballnado?

It is the same tank from the same maker, Game Works Creative. Grab a Grand is filled with paper vouchers or tokens, and the Ballnado is the same booth filled with soft foam balls instead. If you would rather not hand out vouchers, the Ballnado gives you the same whirlwind without anything to give away.

Can it go outside?

The tank is for indoor or marquee use only. If your event is outdoors we can send a small instant marquee free of charge to keep it under cover, so just let us know the setting when you enquire.

How many people can have a go?

One person plays at a time, and a round runs about thirty seconds on the countdown timer, so you can get through up to around thirty players an hour once you factor in swapping people in and out. An attendant keeps that moving on a busy stand.

Venues we deliver to

We hire from a 25,000 sq ft warehouse in Rotherham, five minutes from the A1, M1 and M18, so most of the UK is within easy reach. We deliver to the big exhibition halls including NEC Birmingham, ExCeL London, Manchester Central, Harrogate Convention Centre and Leeds First Direct Arena, and we are out at Amazon fulfilment centres, shopping centres and corporate offices around the country with this one. Europe-wide delivery is available for larger packages.

We have been hiring out exhibition and interactive games since 1999 and own 95% of the kit we send out, with one delivery, one invoice and one contact for the whole booking. Amazon are a good example of how that tends to go, as Anais from Amazon put it:

We have used them for years here at Amazon events. Very reliable.

Grab a Grand is one of our crowd-draw games, the sort that pulls a queue and gives your team a reason to start a conversation. The Ballnado is the same tank filled with foam balls if you would rather not give vouchers away, and the other prize and brand-activation games below pair well with it on a stand. Want a hand putting a set together? Get in touch and we will suggest a mix.
