What the 6 kVA Generator Is
This is a silenced diesel generator in the 6 kVA class - a portable power unit that runs on diesel and puts out enough steady power to keep a small event, a site cabin or a handful of power tools going all day. You'll also see it called a site generator, a temporary power unit or just a 6 kVA silenced gen-set, and it sits at the smaller end of our generator range between the battery generator and the larger 20 kVA and 30 kVA trailer-mounted units.
The unit runs a Yanmar L100AE single-cylinder diesel engine at 3000 rpm, coupled to a Linz alternator for a steady waveform. Output is 6 kVA peak / 4.8 kW continuous, available as both 110V and 230V single phase from a bank of sockets on the side panel - one 32A 230V, one 16A 230V, one 32A 110V and two 16A 110V outlets. The 25-litre tank runs for around 23 hours at three-quarter load before it needs topping up, and the whole thing starts with a key-turn electric starter rather than a pull cord.
It comes as standard on a two-wheeled site trolley with folding handles, which means one person can roll it across hard standing or grass to where it's needed. The acoustic canopy keeps the noise down to around 65 dB(A) at 7 metres - loud enough that you wouldn't want it next to a microphone, but quiet enough for a marquee or an outdoor catering area without it becoming the main event.
We've been hiring out event infrastructure from our 25,000 sq ft warehouse in Rotherham since 1999, five minutes from the M1, and we own and maintain the kit we send out rather than subbing it to a third party. Every hire includes £5 million public liability insurance, with risk assessments and method statements emailed to you or your venue before the event.
