The SLT5000 is a portable LED lighting tower built by Stephill Generators, a UK manufacturer that's been making generators and lighting equipment in Wellingborough since 1985. It puts four 200-watt LED heads on a 5.4 metre hand-cranked mast, which is enough to light over 3,200 square metres at 20 lux average. Each head tilts and turns independently, so you can angle them for a single direction or set them in a 360-degree spread depending on what you're covering.
Under the mast is a Yanmar L70 diesel engine coupled to a Meccalte alternator. That gives you 4.5 kVA of generator output as well as the lights, which means you can run power tools, PA systems or catering equipment off the same unit while the lamps are on. It'll run for 52 hours on lights-only mode from its 34-litre tank, or 29 hours at 75% generator load. Sound level is 66 to 67 dBA at 7 metres - quiet enough that people can hold a conversation nearby without shouting, which makes it suitable for outdoor events and sites where noise is a concern.
The tower weighs 380 kg dry and sits on a wheeled chassis with forklift pockets and a central lifting eye, so it's easy enough to move around site or load onto a tail lift. One person can raise the mast by hand - there's no hydraulic system to fail - and the 2020-onward models include an anti-collapse safety device that locks the mast if the winch cable breaks. The heads are IP66 and IK10 rated, which means rain, dust and the odd knock won't be an issue.
