Red and white striped gazebo stall with candy floss and popcorn machines, uniformed staff and pre-bagged pink candy floss portions

Fun Food & Catering Hire

Candy floss, honey roasted nuts, hot chocolate, mulled wine and pick-n-mix sweet carts - five carts with trained operators, Level 2 Food Hygiene, and enough variety to cover a Christmas market or an exhibition stand.

What's in the range

We've got five fun food carts that between them cover most of what an event organiser would actually want to serve. A candy floss machine and a honey roasted nut cart make up the entry end - both from £295 with a member of our team for up to three hours - and at the other end a mulled wine cart and hot chocolate machine from £895 for proper exhibition-stand hospitality. In the middle sits the pick 'n' mix sweetie stand at £475, which comes loaded with 19 varieties of sweets and around 40kg of stock.

The candy floss machine runs from our red-and-white striped gazebo and does around 150 portions as standard, served on sticks or in bags, with extra portions available if your crowd turns out bigger than planned. The nut cart - also searched for as a roasted nut cart, a hot nut cart or a caramelised peanut cart - is a glass-fronted heated cabinet on a dressed table, serving warm honey roasted peanuts in paper cups. It's the one that does its best work on smell, and people tend to wander over before they've worked out where it's coming from.

The hot chocolate machine is a proper commercial unit with a uniformed server running it all day, complete with whipped cream and marshmallows. And the mulled wine cart - or glühwein cart, depending on who's asking - is a two-gazebo red-and-white striped stall with stainless steel urns, Christmas decorations and two drinks on tap: a traditional spiced mulled wine and a non-alcoholic mulled fruit drink. Both are Vegetarian Society Vegan certified, gluten-free and nut-free, served hot from the same cart so guests can pick whichever they prefer.

Every cart comes with the consumables included - cups, lids, sugar, cones, bags, scoops, whatever it needs. Optionally add a marquee or gazebo and we'll dress the whole pitch to match.

Branding the carts

Most of the carts take some form of branding. The pick 'n' mix stand has two side panels and a top panel that carry a full-colour print - £95+VAT and we'll either work your logo into one of our designs or send you the template. The nut cart front panel takes a brand wrap. The candy floss machine puts your logo onto the bags or the cones, and the hot chocolate cups take a sticker. Of everything on the website, the fun food carts are the easiest branding opportunity - the queue forms itself, and your logo sits on every bag and cup in the line.

Where they work

The range splits roughly into two use cases. The exhibition-stand end - mulled wine, hot chocolate, branded pick 'n' mix - is designed to draw foot traffic in competitive environments like the NEC Birmingham, ExCeL London or Manchester Central, where a warm cup and a free bag of sweets is more persuasive than another branded pen. The funfair end - candy floss, honey roasted nuts - is more about atmosphere at outdoor events, school fetes, council fun days, Christmas markets and corporate family days.

We've supplied the mulled wine cart at Amazon offices for their staff Christmas events, and the pick 'n' mix stand has been out under Aviva, Sky Movies, GWR and Aspris branding at exhibitions and trade shows. The candy floss machine, nut cart, mulled wine cart and hot chocolate machine all work indoors and outdoors. The pick 'n' mix is an indoor stand - sweets and rain aren't a great combination - but it doesn't need any power, which makes it about the simplest thing to drop onto an exhibition stand or into a venue foyer. For the carts that do need power, we can supply a generator if your site doesn't have a socket where it's needed.

And if you're raising money for a school or charity, most of the carts work as a revenue source - a few pence per portion charged at a pound a bag adds up across an afternoon.

Why fun food from us

Most fun food hire companies only do fun food. Our range is different in that the fun food sits inside the same company that handles the exhibition games, the inflatable games, the funfair rides, the marquees and furniture and the generators and event infrastructure. Instead of coordinating four suppliers and hoping nobody lets you down, one booking covers the lot - one delivery, one invoice, one person to call if something needs sorting.

We own and maintain 95% of what we hire out in-house from a 25,000 sq ft warehouse in Rotherham, five minutes from the A1, M1 and M18. South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and the East Midlands are all on our doorstep, and we're running deliveries to London, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow most weeks. Every hire comes with £5 million public liability insurance, risk assessments and method statements as standard, and we've been trading from the same warehouse since 1999.

Common questions

Can we serve alcohol from the mulled wine cart, and do we need a licence?

The traditional mulled wine contains alcohol, so if you're serving it at a venue without a premises licence - an exhibition stand, for example - you may need to sort licensing. The non-alcoholic mulled fruit drink sidesteps this and works at any venue. We include licensing advice with every mulled wine hire, so we'll talk through the options for your specific event.

What do we need to provide for the carts on the day?

Most carts need a standard 13A socket within 25 metres - the candy floss machine, nut cart, hot chocolate machine and mulled wine cart all need power for heating or spinning. The pick 'n' mix stand needs no power at all. We bring the table, the marquee or gazebo if requested, and all the consumables. If your site has no mains power, we can supply a generator as part of the booking.

How many people can each cart serve?

It varies by cart. The candy floss machine covers about 150 portions as standard, with extra portions available at £150 per 200 small portions. The nut cart handles a steady queue across a full event. The mulled wine cart manages hundreds of cups per hour from its two-drink setup. The hot chocolate machine is designed for continuous throughput across a full exhibition day. The pick 'n' mix stand arrives with 40kg of sweets - enough for most single-day events with a few hundred guests.

What about food allergies?

The honey roasted nut cart serves peanuts, which are a major allergen - we display an allergy notice on the cart and ask guests to flag dietary requirements with the person serving. The mulled wine cart's two drinks are Vegetarian Society Vegan certified, gluten-free and nut-free, which covers most dietary requirements without needing a separate setup. If your event has specific allergy concerns, let us know when you book and we'll make sure the signage and briefings cover it.

Can we make money back on the hire by charging guests?

Yes, most of the carts work well for this. The candy floss machine and pick 'n' mix stand are the ones people most often charge for at school fairs, charity events and fetes - a few pence per portion at £1 a bag adds up quickly. Schools and PTAs use them regularly to cover the hire cost and raise funds on top.
