Instagrid ONE max Battery Generator Hire

Silent, portable 230V power. From £120.

The Instagrid ONE max is a portable battery power station made by Instagrid, a German company that builds professional-grade power supplies for construction, film, events and emergency services. It won Hire Industry Product of the Year at the HAE EHA Awards, and after using them ourselves for exhibition stand power and off-grid event sites, we can see why.

It weighs 20 kg and puts out 3.6 kW of continuous 230V AC power - enough to run lighting rigs, PA systems, AV equipment, DJ setups, catering appliances or charging stations. The 2.1 kWh lithium-ion battery recharges from a standard wall socket in about two and a half hours. Because it's completely silent and produces no fumes, you can use it indoors, in exhibition halls, or in noise-sensitive outdoor areas where a diesel generator wouldn't be practical.

It's also IP54 rated, so it handles rain and dust without complaint. The outer case is recycled aluminium, cooled passively - there are no fans to clog up or break. A companion app lets you monitor charge level and usage from your phone over Bluetooth, which is handy when the unit's tucked behind a stand or under a stage.

We carry the UK-spec version with a 13A socket and a Neutrik powerCON TRUE1 output. If you need more capacity, the Instagrid LINK module lets you connect up to three ONE max units together for 6.3 kWh with hot-swap capability - we can supply those too.

If you're not sure how much power you'll need, send us your kit list and we'll work out the runtime for you. Most of the time a single unit covers a full exhibition day without needing a top-up, but we can talk through what makes sense for your setup.

Suitability

  • Indoors on hard surfaces - exhibition halls, conference centres, studios
  • Indoors on carpeted and artificial grass surfaces
  • Outdoors on concrete, tarmac, hard standing
  • Outdoors on grass (flat, dry ground)
  • Outdoors on mixed grass and hard surface
  • Outdoors on wood chip and gravel

Not suitable for devices that feed power back into the supply grid, or equipment that depends on a protective conductor connection for safety.

Runtime - what you can expect

The runtime depends on what you're powering. As a rough guide, divide 2,100 by the total wattage of your equipment. A few real-world examples from other hire companies and our own use:

  • A 420W LED fixture (like an Arri Skypanel S60 at full brightness) - around 5 hours
  • A 350W light or small PA speaker - around 6 hours
  • A 285W outdoor lighting fixture - around 7 hours
  • A laptop and small monitor setup drawing 100W - over 20 hours

If you're running multiple items, add up the wattages first. A DJ setup with two active speakers (200W each), a mixer (30W), and a laptop (65W) draws roughly 500W, giving you about 4 hours of continuous use.

The peak power rating of 18 kW means the Instagrid can handle the startup surge from equipment that draws more when it first powers on - motors, compressors, some older amplifiers. That's one of the things that sets it apart from cheaper battery packs.

What you get when you hire from us

We've been hiring out event equipment from our 25,000 sq ft warehouse near Sheffield since 1999. We own 95% of the kit on this site - the Instagrid is no exception, it's in our stock, maintained by our team, and delivered in our own vehicles.

Every hire includes:

  • The Instagrid ONE max unit, fully charged
  • Charging cable
  • Delivery, setup and collection by our own team
  • £5 million public liability insurance with indemnity to principal
  • Risk assessments and method statements, emailed to you or your venue before the event
  • Technical support on the day if you need it

We supply power and distribution kit to exhibitions and events at venues including the NEC Birmingham, Manchester Central, and ExCeL London. If you need cabling, distribution boards, cable protectors, or backup diesel generators alongside the Instagrid, we carry all of that and can put it on a single booking with one invoice.

Common questions

How long will the Instagrid ONE max run my equipment?

It depends on the total wattage of everything you're powering. Divide 2,100 by the total watts to get roughly the number of hours. For example, a 420W LED fixture runs about 5 hours; a laptop drawing 65W runs over 30 hours. If you send us your kit list we'll calculate the runtime for you before you book.

Can I use the Instagrid ONE max indoors at an exhibition?

Yes. It's one of the main reasons people choose it over a diesel generator. There are no exhaust fumes - it produces zero local emissions - and the noise level is under 10 dB(A), which is effectively silent. It's IP54 rated so it's fine in a busy exhibition hall, and the 20 kg weight means one person can carry it through a venue without a trolley.

How does hiring an Instagrid compare to a diesel generator?

For loads up to about 3.6 kW, an Instagrid is lighter (20 kg vs typically 80+ kg for a silenced diesel), silent, and produces no exhaust. You can use it indoors without ventilation. The trade-off is runtime - a diesel generator runs as long as it has fuel, whereas the Instagrid gives you 2.1 kWh per charge. For longer runs or higher loads, we carry diesel generators from 6 kVA to 30 kVA as well, and we can advise which setup suits your event. A lot of our exhibition clients use an Instagrid for the stand itself and a diesel generator for the larger outdoor kit.

Related power and distribution kit

The Instagrid ONE max covers smaller, quieter power needs - exhibition stands, indoor AV, noise-sensitive sites. For heavier loads, long runs or backup, pair it with our diesel generators, distribution units and cabling below. Not sure what you need? Get in touch with your kit list and we'll spec it for you.
