The Punch & Judy face-in-the-hole board is 80cm wide and 150cm tall, printed in a vintage watercolour style and framed with bold red-and-white vertical stripes like a circus tent or seaside booth. The illustration shows the two puppets on a small curtained stage: Punch in his traditional red outfit with yellow frills, pointed cap and hooked nose, and Judy in a blue polka-dotted bonnet and apron. A green crocodile peeks in from the side, and the familiar pink sausages float between them. Below the stage, a yellow sign reads "THAT'S THE WAY TO SNAP IT!" - a photo-themed twist on the old catchphrase.
Two oval holes are cut where the puppets' faces should be, so two people can pose at once. The board comes on a metal stand with a weighted base, so it stays upright on grass or hard standing without anyone holding it. There is nothing to plug in and no attendant needed - guests run the photo opportunity themselves with their own phones.
Punch and Judy shows have been part of British seaside culture since the 17th century - the V&A calls the act an "English entertainment icon". This board does the same job. We have deployed it alongside our wider seaside hire range at events for clients including Amazon, and it tends to draw a queue once people spot the stripes from across the field.
