Home Stretch Bounce-A-Ball Hire

The Home Stretch is a Bounce-A-Ball horse racing game — also called a bounce-ball racing game or horse derby arcade game. It's the modern version of the boardwalk roll-a-ball machines you'll remember from seaside arcades, only instead of rolling balls up a ramp you bounce them off a pad into three scoring holes marked Sprint, Gallop and Trot. Land a shot and your horse moves up the LED track on the scoreboard in front of you. The first horse to the finish line wins, and the commentary and sound effects make it feel properly like the track.

It's a compact unit on its own frame, so it fits in places a full-size arcade machine wouldn't — a corner of an exhibition stand, a function room at a race night, even an office breakout area. We carry it as a two-player unit and can do a four-player version if your budget and space allow.

You'll see the same machine listed elsewhere as the Bounce A Ball Home Stretch, the Home Stretch Bounce A Ball, or just a bounce-a-ball horse derby game. Ours is set to free play with the commentary and race sounds on — it's the kind of noise that pulls people across a stand to see what's going on.

We've been hiring out exhibition and arcade games from Sheffield since 1999, and we own and maintain 95% of what we send out from our 25,000 sq ft warehouse in Rotherham, five minutes from the M1. Every hire comes with £5 million public liability insurance, and risk assessments and method statements emailed to you or your venue before the event.

Running a race night

A race night with the Home Stretch at the centre works well because it's fast. Each race is over in a minute or so, which means a steady stream of players, a steady crowd around the machine, and a natural rhythm to the evening. Pair it with a magnetic leaderboard to keep the scores visible and people will keep coming back to beat the top time. Add a PA system with a radio mic and someone on commentary, and it starts to feel like a proper race meet.

If you're running it on an exhibition stand, the quick-play format means visitors don't get stuck for long — a go, a score, and a conversation with your team. It pairs well with the Gold Cup horse racing game and Reindeer Racing for a full betting-and-racing setup. For a Christmas do, we can swap the graphics over to a seasonal theme.

Branding

We can brand the unit with your logo or artwork, printed and applied by our in-house team and removed after the event.

Panel Price
Bottom board £95
Scoreboard £29
Full front wrap £69

Branding uses sticker transfers and is suitable for a single hire period. The bottom board graphic can be retained for repeat bookings free of charge — we keep hold of it between events, so you only pay for it once. More about how it works on our branding page.

How it plays

Each player gets a set of balls and a bounce pad in front of them. The aim is to bounce the balls off the pad and land them in one of three scoring holes — the higher the hole, the more points scored. Each successful bounce moves that player's horse a step forward along the LED track on the scoreboard above.

The holes are marked Sprint, Gallop, and Trot in a nod to the old boardwalk machines, and the sound effects call the race as it goes. It's simple enough that someone can pick it up without an explanation, but there's enough skill in the bounce to keep people coming back for a better score.

The Home Stretch sits well alongside other race-theme and arcade games:

Venues we deliver to

From our warehouse in Rotherham we're five minutes from the A1, M1 and M18, which puts the major exhibition venues within reach without much lead time. We deliver regularly to NEC Birmingham, ExCeL London, Manchester Central, Olympia London, Harrogate Convention Centre and ACC Liverpool, as well as across South and West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester. Europe-wide delivery is available for larger packages.

The Home Stretch is one of a range of arcade games we carry — if you're putting together a full race night or an exhibition games package, we can put delivery, branding and any other kit into one quote and one invoice.

Common questions

How does the gameplay work — do you roll or bounce the balls?

You bounce them, not roll them. Each player has a bounce pad in front of them — you drop the ball onto the pad and it bounces up toward the scoring holes. It's the same basic idea as the old boardwalk roll-a-ball horse racing machines, but with a bounce mechanic instead of a ramp. The holes are labelled Sprint, Gallop and Trot, and each successful shot moves your horse forward on the LED track. It takes a minute or so to get the hang of the bounce, which is what keeps people coming back for another go.

Can the game be themed differently, or is it always horse racing?

The machine itself is a Bounce A Ball unit with interchangeable graphics. The Home Stretch is the horse racing theme, but we also carry a carnival-themed version and can do a Christmas skin with reindeer and snow graphics. The commentary audio can be swapped to match — so a corporate booking with branded graphics gets a voiceover that fits rather than the stock race-caller. If you've got something specific in mind, the in-house team can sort it. All the branding comes off after the event.

How many people can play, and can we run a tournament?

It's a 2-player machine as standard, and we can do a 4-player version if you need more players per race. For a tournament, the format works well — each race is quick, so you can run heats across an evening or a full day without anyone waiting long. Pair it with a magnetic leaderboard and you've got a proper competition leaderboard running alongside the game. We've set it up this way at race nights and corporate fun days, and it tends to draw a crowd for the final.
