Players launching balls at the four colour-coded reindeer racing lanes

Roll a Ball Reindeer Racing

Hire from £995.

You might remember the Donkey Derby from seaside arcades — roll the balls into the coloured holes and your horse creeps up the track. This is the same idea, but it's been given a proper Christmas overhaul by Carnival Games in the US. Two Bounce a Ball units linked side by side give you four colour-coded lanes — blue, red, orange and green — each with its own reindeer racing up a bank of LED lights above the playfield.

The scoring is straightforward. Small balls bounce off a launch pad onto a tilted target board with four slots, each worth a different number of points. Trot, gallop, sprint, dash — the better the shot, the further your reindeer advances. There's a PA system built in pumping festive sound effects, and the illuminated backboard with Santa's sleigh and snowy village scene makes it the kind of thing people stop to watch even when they're not playing.

We own both units ourselves — they're not sub-hired in. That means the maintenance is ours to keep on top of, and if something needs attention on the day, the person you're dealing with is the person who can sort it.

This is the four-player setup. If you're after the two-player single-unit version, have a look at our Bounce a Ball Reindeer Racing page — it's the same game, just one unit instead of two.

Delivery and Coverage

Our 25,000 sq ft warehouse is in Rotherham, about five minutes from the A1, M1 and M18. From there we cover the whole of the UK — South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester are on our doorstep, and for larger bookings we're regularly delivering to Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and London. We've been doing this since 1999, so we've had a fair bit of practice at getting exhibition games to where they need to be, on time.

Delivery is in our own vehicles by our own team — we don't subcontract the logistics. Every hire includes setup and breakdown, £5 million public liability insurance (with indemnity to principal cover when we supply staff), and risk assessments emailed to your venue before the event. If you need a trained attendant to run the game on the day so your team can get on with everything else, just mention it when you enquire.

Watch the game in action below. The video shows a two-player unit but the four-player setup is the same — just doubled up and linked. For more of our games, have a look at our YouTube channel.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many players can play at once?

Four players compete simultaneously across four colour-coded lanes — blue, red, orange and green. Each lane has its own reindeer and its own bank of LED lights tracking progress. The four-player setup is made by linking two Bounce a Ball units together. We also hire the single two-player unit if that suits your event better.

Can you use it outside?

Only under cover — a marquee or gazebo works fine. The electronics and the balls don't get on with rain, and the illuminated backboard needs to be out of direct weather. On a dry day under a decent gazebo, it'll run all afternoon without a problem.

What's the connection to the old Donkey Derby game?

The scoring mechanic is the same one people remember from seaside Donkey Derby machines — roll balls into coloured holes to advance your runner along the track. This version swaps donkeys for reindeer, wraps the whole thing in a winter theme, and replaces the old mechanical scoring with LED tracks and a PA system. The game itself is manufactured by Carnival Games in the US, who make the Bounce a Ball series with interchangeable themes including this Reindeer Dash edition.
