A Batak Pro with a winter wrap

The Batak Snowball Smash is a full-size Batak Pro reaction wall — the original designed by Dr D.W. Nelson — wearing Christmas. Same 12-target frame, same thirty-plus programmes, same machine that Formula 1 teams and Premier League football clubs use for training. The only difference is the artwork: a custom "Peak Wonderland" winter scene with cartoon snowmen, snowy mountains and a flying snowball across the back panel, designed by InHouse Entertainments as a seasonal variant of the Batak Pro.

It's also called a Snowball Batak, a Christmas Batak, or just a Snowball Smash, whichever your procurement team prefers to put on the order.

The game works the same way as every Batak Pro we hire out — twelve bright LED targets arranged around the frame light up in random or programmed sequences, and you hit them as fast as you can against the clock. The most popular programme is the 30-second "Against the Clock" sprint, which is the one that creates queues at Christmas parties and exhibition stands. Scores show up on two red LED displays at the top of the frame, and verbal prompts talk the player through each round.

We've been hiring out Batak games since the late nineties and we carry the largest stock in the UK — so if you're running events at multiple venues on the same day, that's something we can sort without subcontracting.

Running a leaderboard competition

The Batak is built for scoreboards. Each 30-second round gives you a number to write down, and the short format means nobody waits long between goes. We supply a matching "Peak Wonderland" branded magnetic leaderboard that sits next to the unit with slots for names and scores. Having yesterday's top score still up when you walk in is the thing that gets people back for another go.

If you're running a multi-day event the thirty-plus programmes give you something to escalate with — start visitors on the easier settings on day one, move the regulars up as they return. A digital leaderboard is available if you're capturing data at a roadshow or multi-site activation.

Branding

The Snowball Smash already has its winter-themed wrap, but sections of it can take additional branding — a company logo over the top, a sponsor's name on the target surrounds, whatever you need for the stand. From our 25,000 sq ft warehouse in Rotherham we're five minutes from the A1, M1 and M18, which puts us within reach of the major exhibition venues without much of a lead time. We deliver regularly to NEC Birmingham, ExCeL London, Manchester Central, Olympia London, Harrogate Convention Centre and ACC Liverpool, as well as across Sheffield, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester. Europe-wide delivery is available for larger packages.

The Snowball Smash sits naturally in a Christmas package but it's a Batak Pro underneath — it works on an exhibition stand in July just as well. Can the Snowball Smash be used outdoors?

Not without full overhead cover. The Batak frame has electronic scoring displays and a microcomputer inside — it's not a weatherproofed unit, so it needs to be indoors or under a proper marquee. If your venue has a covered outdoor area, let us know when you enquire and we'll talk through whether it'll work.

How many people can play in an hour?

One player per round, but each round is over in 30 seconds — with a few seconds between goes for the next person to step up, you can put through thirty to forty people an hour. Quick enough that a queue doesn't turn into a crowd that's just standing around.

Does it need staffing?

Not necessarily. We'll brief your team on how to start a round and keep things moving — it's one button to press. But if you'd rather your people focus on conversations and leave the game to us, we can supply a trained attendant for the duration. Just mention it when you get in touch.
