Interactive Basketball Arcade Hire
The interactive basketball is a UNIS Elite machine, built by Universal Space - the same kind of commercial unit you'd find in an amusement arcade, rather than a home toy. It goes by a few other names depending on who's asking: a basketball shootout, a pop-a-shot machine, or just an arcade basketball game.
What sets it apart from an old-fashioned pop-a-shot is the backboard. Instead of a flat board, there's a 49" LCD screen behind the hoop that runs the scoring, the countdown and the animations, so the game has a bit more to it. You shoot the small basketballs up the wood-effect lane into a real hoop, against the clock, and the screen keeps your score and a target to chase. The balls feed back down the lane through the red cord guards on either side, which keeps a queue moving without anyone chasing stray balls across the floor.
The hoop height adjusts electronically, so it drops down for children and goes back up for adults, and there are two modes - a standard scoring game and a fitness mode - selected from the touch-screen panel at the player's end. It runs off a 13A mains socket, and we can bring a generator if there's no power where you want it.
