Two-player pop-a-shot basketball

The Double Shot is a two-player, head-to-head basketball game - two hoops mounted side by side on the same unit, a sloped lane printed with court markings, an LED scoreboard on the backboard and a return that feeds the balls back to the players after each shot. It goes by a few other names depending on who's asking: a pop-a-shot, a basketball shootout, twin basketball hoops, or just an arcade basketball game.

We run two of these in the fleet. One is a MightyMast Leisure "Shootout Hoops" machine with red rims and a TIME / HOME / VISITOR scoreboard; the other is an MD Sports unit. Both are folding, free-standing units on a tubular frame, and they play the same way, so which one turns up depends on what's already out on the day - tell us if you have a preference and we'll sort it.

It works on an exhibition stand because it's quick and it's a head-to-head, so players come up two at a time, the scores go on a leaderboard, and your team gets a steady stream of people to talk to without anyone being sold at. At full tilt it handles up to 60 players an hour.

Where It Works Well

  • Exhibition Stands and Trade Shows

  • Freshers Fairs and Careers Events

  • Corporate Fun Days and Team Building

  • Staff Parties

  • Christmas and Seasonal Parties

  • Wedding Side Games

How It Plays

Both players take a hoop, grab a mini basketball each from the tray at the foot of the lane, and shoot against the clock - the LED scoreboard keeps each side's score and counts the round down, and a timed round is over in well under a minute. The balls feed back down the lane through the side nets, so nobody's chasing strays across the floor and the queue keeps moving.

Because it's two hoops rather than one, you can run it as a straight head-to-head, which is the simplest way to keep a competition going on a stand - fastest or highest score across the day, with the totals on a leaderboard so people come back to beat their mark. The whole unit runs off its own battery pack, so there are no cables to run and it can sit anywhere on a stand or a function-room floor.

We own and maintain the basketball units in-house from our 25,000 sq ft warehouse in Rotherham, five minutes from the A1, M1 and M18, so there's no third-party supplier between you and the kit if something needs sorting on the day. From there we deliver across the UK, including to the major exhibition venues - NEC Birmingham, ExCeL London, Manchester Central and Olympia London. Tell us your venue and dates and we'll confirm the delivery cost with the quote.

The Double Shot is one of over 600 products across our catalogue, and we're a repeat supplier for corporate clients including Amazon. If you're putting together a whole stand or fun day - other exhibition games, sports games, arcade games, staging, generators - we can supply it on one booking with one point of contact. Lucy, Specsavers Early Careers Manager, who books us for their careers events, put it like this: "The DB team have been absolutely fantastic at our recent schools careers events. Katie, Dean and Becky have been efficient, friendly and very helpful. I thoroughly recommend them."

Common Questions

Does the Double Shot need mains power?

No. The unit runs off its own internal battery pack, so there are no cables to run and no generator needed. That's why it suits exhibition stands and function-room floors where a trailing lead would be in the way - it can sit anywhere you've got space for it.

Is it one player or two?

Two. There are two hoops mounted side by side on the same unit, so it's built for head-to-head play. The LED scoreboard keeps both sides' scores, which makes it easy to run as a quick competition with a leaderboard across the day.

How much room does it need, and will it fit indoors?

The unit is 4ft x 7.5ft on the floor and stands 7.5ft tall, and we allow a bit more depth for the player - around 4ft x 10.5ft of clear space. The 7.5ft height is the one to watch indoors, so check your ceiling height with us before booking.

Can children play it?

Yes - it suits both children and adults aged 5 and up. The mini basketballs and the sloped lane make it manageable for younger players, and it's indoor or marquee use only as the scoring is electronic.
