Teams racing on wooden giant skis using individual blue hand ropes

It's a Knockout Giant Skis

Team skis hire from £125 plus VAT.

Giant Team Skis Hire

Each team lines up on two long wooden skis, with one foot on each plank and a hand rope at every marked position. To get anywhere, everyone has to lift the same ski and step at roughly the same time. One person going early is enough to stop the lot, which makes this a genuine coordination task rather than an individual game with team scores added afterwards.

You may also know it as team skis, a plank walk or the centipede game. We use it as an It's a Knockout race for corporate team building and company fun days, where teams can run a course or take part in relay heats. It is straightforward for spectators to follow and the wooden skis and ropes are easy to see from the edge of the activity area.

Hire starts at £125 plus VAT. Tell us the venue, available space and how you want the session to run, and we will quote for the delivery and any event staff you need.

Where the game fits

  • Corporate Team Building

The team has to agree a rhythm and move the two skis together, so cooperation is built into the task itself.

  • It's a Knockout Races

Use the skis for a marked race or as one station in a wider relay with other active team games.

  • Brand Activations

A visible live challenge for activations with enough open floor or outdoor space for a short race lane and spectators.

  • Company Fun Days

It works well among a mixed programme of races, inflatables and low-tech games at a staff or family event.

  • Larger Exhibitions

Suitable where the organiser can provide an open activity area; it is not intended as a compact game for a crowded shell-scheme stand.

  • College Events

The same skis were included in a completed Barnsley College booking at its Honeywell campus in April 2025.

How the race works

Players stand in a line with one foot on each wooden ski and hold the rope at their own foot position. The team then agrees the order of the steps, lifts one ski using the ropes and moves forward together before repeating the movement on the other side.

The photographs show the skis being raced side by side on a cone-marked grass course. They can also be used on the indoor and outdoor surfaces listed for the equipment, subject to a suitable clear activity area and the venue approving the setup. Send us the surface and a few measurements rather than trying to judge it from a photograph.

Used at Amazon LBA5 and Barnsley College

We supplied the Giant Skis to Amazon UK Services at LBA5 in Leeds on 21 July 2024, as part of a games package with Arcade Basketball, Home Stretch Horse Racing, Gold Cup Horse Racing and nine-hole Mini Golf.

They also formed part of a completed booking for Barnsley College at its Honeywell campus on 24 April 2025. Those are two quite different jobs, but both show where the game makes sense: an open activity area where a team race can sit among a wider programme.

Anais Nyakina Bokole said of our wider work with Amazon, "We have used them for years here at Amazon events. Very reliable."

Planning the activity area

Giant Skis need a clear lane for the teams rather than the footprint of a static garden game. For an exhibition or brand activation, they suit a larger open hall, concourse or outdoor hospitality area where the race can be kept separate from passing visitors. If space on the stand is tight, browse our exhibition games for a more compact option.

For a fuller team session, pair the skis with Walking Tubes and Tug of War, or look through the team-building games and corporate fun-day entertainment ranges. We deliver nationwide and can discuss larger venue plans around Leeds and Barnsley as well as events further afield.

We've been supplying event games since 1999 and operate from a 25,000 sq ft warehouse in Rotherham, near Sheffield. Around 95% of the equipment on this site is owned and operated in-house, so the office, warehouse and delivery teams are working from the same booking rather than passing it through a chain of suppliers.

Build a team-game package

These games can turn the skis into one station in a longer team session or give people something different to do between races. Send us the headcount, venue and timings and we'll suggest a workable mix.
