The Instagrid LINK package pairs a LINK smart safety power distributor with three ONE Max portable battery units, giving a combined 6.3 kWh of 230V mains power. Instagrid is a German manufacturer that builds professional-grade power supplies for construction, film, events and emergency services, and the ONE Max won Hire Industry Product of the Year at the HAE EHA Awards.

Where a single ONE Max covers a small stand for a day, the LINK package is built for exhibition stands that pull a bit more - lighting rigs, screens, PA and interactive games running at the same time - and for multi-day shows where you need headroom. The LINK distributor gives you up to three RCD-protected outputs, so you are not daisy-chaining strips behind the stand.

The reason it exists for exhibitions is that it is silent and produces no emissions. Diesel generators are banned on the floor at venues including the NEC Birmingham, ExCeL London, Manchester Central and the Telford International Centre, and running long mains cables across carpeted aisles to a remote power point is not always practical. Three batteries cabled through the LINK sit behind a counter or under a table and keep the stand running without an engine doing the same.

Island Mode is the part that matters for longer shows. When a battery runs down we swap it out for a charged one without dropping power to the stand, so screens and interactive games stay on. Each ONE Max recharges from a standard 13A socket in under three hours, which means a rotating set of batteries can keep a stand running through a full three-day exhibition.

Runtime at an exhibition stand

Divide 6,300 by the total wattage of everything on the stand to get a rough runtime in hours from a full charge across all three batteries. Some realistic exhibition examples:

  • A stand lighting rig of four 150W LED floods (600W) - around 10 hours
  • A 420W LED fixture, two 100W screens and a 200W PA (820W) - around 7.5 hours
  • A Batak reaction wall drawing 150W plus 300W of stand lighting (450W) - around 14 hours
  • A laptop and small monitor setup at 100W - over 60 hours

Add the wattages up first if you are running several items. A typical exhibition stand pulling 1 kW across lighting, a screen and audio gets roughly 6 hours from the full package, which covers a standard show day without needing a top-up.

Each battery's 18 kW peak rating covers the startup surge from motors, compressors and older amplifiers - the sort of momentary draw that trips up cheaper battery packs. Island Mode is where the package earns its keep over a single unit: a depleted battery comes out and a charged one goes in mid-show without the power dropping, and recharge takes under three hours from a 13A socket. For a three-day exhibition we rotate batteries through the charger so the stand never goes dark.

Common questions

How does the hot-swap work during a show?

Island Mode lets us pull a depleted ONE Max out of the LINK and slot a charged one in without the power dropping, so anything on the stand stays on - screens, lighting, interactive games, the lot. Each battery recharges from a standard 13A socket in under three hours, so for a multi-day show we rotate units through the charger and the stand never goes dark. You do not need to shut anything down or wait for a reboot.

Can I use the LINK package at the NEC or ExCeL?

Yes - that is the main reason this package exists. Diesel generators are not permitted on the exhibition floor at the NEC Birmingham, ExCeL London, Manchester Central or the Telford International Centre, because of the fumes and the fire risk. The Instagrid produces no exhaust and runs at under 10 dB(A) per unit, quiet enough to sit on the stand itself rather than in a loading bay. The IP54 rating means it handles a busy exhibition hall without complaint.

Is 6.3 kWh enough for a full exhibition stand?

Divide 6,300 by the total wattage on the stand to get the rough runtime in hours. A stand pulling 1 kW across lighting, a screen and audio gets about 6 hours from a full charge, which covers a standard show day. A heavier stand with multiple screens, a PA and interactive games might pull 1.5 kW and get around 4 hours before the first battery swap. Can I add more batteries for a longer show?

Yes. The LINK takes up to three ONE Max units at once, but we can put extra charged batteries on the truck for rotation, and for heavier 3-phase loads the sensible step up is one of our diesel generators from 6 kVA to 30 kVA alongside distribution boards, cabling and lighting. A lot of exhibition clients run the Instagrid on the stand for the silent, indoor bit and keep a diesel gen-set outside for the larger outdoor kit.
