Inflatable Grand National

The Inflatable Grand National is a giant outdoor horse racing game. Four riders each grab a space hopper horse, line up in their starting pen and bounce flat-out down their own lane to the finish. It's the inflatable version of the Aintree dash - there's no skill to learn, you just get on and go, and whoever bounces the fastest wins. Each race is over in well under a minute, so a queue moves quickly and you get a steady stream of riders through it.

It's one long, straight run in red and black - a single track rather than a loop. At one end there's a row of four arched starting pens, numbered one to four with a red inflatable horse figure sitting up on top, and at the far end there's a large inflatable arch the riders race towards. The four hopper horses are coloured green, white, blue and red, one to a pen, so spectators can pick a number and call their favourite home.

We first ran it at Doncaster Racecourse for a corporate fun day, and it does exactly what you'd hope - it's as good to watch as it is to ride, with four grown adults bouncing down a racetrack on inflatable horses pulling a crowd in from across the field. It's a recent addition to our range, owned and maintained in-house like the rest of our kit.

Space and Power

This is a big outdoor game - a full-length four-lane track - so it wants a large, flat area of grass or hard standing with room to anchor it down and space at the sides for spectators. It pegs out at ground level, so grass is the easiest surface, and on hard standing we weight it instead. It's really one for outdoors or a large sports hall rather than a function room.

Like any inflatable, it needs a blower running the whole time to stay up. If the venue has mains power nearby that's all it needs, and if there's no power where it's going we can bring a generator - just say so when you enquire and we'll put it in the quote. We've been hiring out inflatable games from our Rotherham warehouse since 1999.

We own and maintain the unit in-house rather than subbing it out, so there's no third party between you and the kit if something needs sorting on the day. If you'd rather not tie up your own people, we can put a trained attendant on it to run the heats, keep the queue moving and call the races.

Our in-house team can print and fit your branding to the unit for a corporate booking, applied before the event and removed afterwards - the branding page covers how that works. The price depends on dates, location and how long you need it, so contact us for a quote.

Suitable for children and adults. Four people race at a time, one to each lane, and with a queue going it keeps a crowd moving rather than leaving people stood waiting for a turn.

How it plays

Each rider takes a hopper horse, gets on in their starting pen and bounces down their lane as fast as they can. There's nothing to learn - the first horse over the finish line wins, and it's tiring enough that everyone's laughing by the end. It's as much fun for the crowd as the riders, which is what makes it work at a fun day or a race night.

Where We Deliver

We hire from a 25,000 sq ft warehouse in Rotherham, five minutes from the A1, M1 and M18, so most of the UK is a straightforward run. South and West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and the East Midlands are all standard, and we deliver nationwide for larger bookings. A big outdoor game like this tends to go to showgrounds, racecourses and sports parks - we've taken it to Doncaster Racecourse, and we deliver regularly to Penistone Showground, Newark Showground, the Yorkshire Event Centre and Sheffield Hallam Sports Park, among others.

Common Questions

How does it work - do you sit on the inflatable horses?

You straddle a space hopper horse - there's one per lane in green, white, blue and red - and bounce down your lane to the finish. There's no technique to it beyond bouncing fast, so anyone can pick it up straight away. The first horse over the line wins, and a race is over in well under a minute.

How many people can race at once?

Four at a time, one to each lane, with the four starting pens numbered one to four. With a queue going it gets through riders quickly, so it keeps a crowd moving rather than leaving people stood waiting. Run it as heats and you can work a whole group through to a final.

Can it go indoors?

It's a long, full-size four-lane track, so it really wants an outdoor space - grass is easiest as it pegs down, and we weight it on hard standing. A sports hall with the floor area works too, but a standard function room won't take it. Tell us your space when you enquire and we'll check it fits before you book.

Is it suitable for adults as well as children?

Yes, it's built for both. We first ran it at a corporate fun day at Doncaster Racecourse with adults racing, and it works just as well for children. It's as good to watch as it is to ride, which is why it suits fun days, race nights and corporate events where you want something that pulls a crowd.
