Electro-Voice ELX115 top cabinet on a pole above an ELX118 subwoofer, with the EV logo lit

Medium EV ELX PA System Hire

Two 15-inch Electro-Voice tops, two 18-inch subwoofers, an eight-channel desk and wireless microphones, from £395 plus VAT a day.

The Middle Weight of Our PA Hire

This rig is two Electro-Voice ELX115 15-inch full-range tops on poles above two ELX118 18-inch subwoofers, with a small eight-channel mixing desk, at least two wireless microphones, an MP3 player and wired microphones alongside. You will see the same shape of system listed as a medium PA, a 2.1 rig or a tops-and-subs set-up; whatever you call it, the tops carry the voice and the subs carry the low end that demo audio and music need to sound right.

It sits between our other two PA hires. A single 15-inch 800W Bluetooth speaker covers a small room from one cabinet, and the staffed Logic System 6K package arrives with stage monitors and an engineer to run the desk. This one is for the ground in between: exhibition stands, halls, marquees and promotions where one speaker is not enough but a staffed rig is more than the job needs.

We deliver it, set it up and cable it, then leave you with a desk that has been checked and is ready for whoever is presenting. If the room turns out to be long, extra ELX115 tops can be added at £25 plus VAT each, booked in pairs.

Electro-Voice Live X

Electro-Voice has been building loudspeakers and microphones since 1927, when Lou Burroughs and Al Kahn opened a radio repair business in South Bend, Indiana, and the brand has been part of Bosch since 2006. The ELX115 and ELX118 come from its Live X range of portable live-sound cabinets: braced 15mm plywood boxes that hold up well to life in the back of a van.

The ELX115 top carries a 15-inch woofer and a 1.5-inch titanium compression driver, rated at 400 watts continuous with a 134 dB maximum SPL, and it pole-mounts straight off the ELX118 - a subwoofer built for the 35 Hz to 200 Hz end of things and designed to sit under those exact tops. It is a matched stack rather than an assorted pile of boxes.

Where This Rig Earns Its Keep

  • Trade Show Announcements

Voice announcements over a busy hall, with demo audio and presentation loops running from the MP3 player or a laptop through the desk for the length of the show.

  • Stand Talks and Demos

The head-worn or lapel wireless mic option leaves a presenter's hands free to demonstrate a product while they talk, which tends to matter more than anything else on a stand.

  • Corporate Presentations

Wired microphones at a lectern and wireless for whoever is roaming, through a desk with enough channels for mics, playback and a laptop feed at the same time.

  • DJs and Evening Dos

The MP3 player and subwoofers do the groundwork for a party set. If you would rather someone else ran the music, a sound engineer or the staffed 6K package is the better booking.

  • Outdoor Promotions

The rig goes out on grass, concrete, hard flooring, artificial grass and wood chip. Where there is no mains within reach, a generator can come with it - tell us what else is running on the site and we will size it.

  • Halls, Schools and Weddings

Assemblies, fairs, quiz nights, dance shows and wedding receptions all work with the same set of boxes, and the two subwoofers are the difference between background music and something people dance to.

On Exhibition Stands and Further Afield

The conference venues we deliver to most weeks - NEC Birmingham, ExCeL London, Manchester Central and Telford International Centre - normally have mains power available on the stands, so the rig plugs straight in and the eight channels cover announcements, a loop of demo audio and a mic or two with room to spare. The same kit goes to sports clubs, council events and retail promotions, indoors and out.

It pairs with the practical extras a stand or marquee usually needs: a lectern for speakers, staging to raise a demo, cable protectors where the public walk, and power distribution or a generator for sites without mains. Keeping the sound, staging and power on one order means one delivery, one set of paperwork and one team to chase if anything needs changing.

The day rate starts at £395 plus VAT. Extra ELX115 tops are £25 plus VAT each, booked in pairs, and additional wireless microphones, stands and CD players are quoted with the booking. A minimum spend can apply depending on your postcode, and travel is confirmed in the quote rather than left to the invoice.

We have traded since 1999 and this rig is our own kit, maintained in a 25,000 sq ft warehouse in Rotherham five minutes from the A1, M1 and M18 - the wider business owns and operates around 95% of everything listed on this website, so what turns up is what we have looked after rather than something subbed in for the day.

Feedback From a Wedding PA Hire

After a wedding booking in April 2023, Peter said that "on the day all went according to plan, they set up everything, and were back on time as promised", and that he was "blown away by the speaker quality". His one suggestion was that wireless microphones would have made the day easier - a minimum of two wireless microphones come as standard with this rig.

Questions About the Medium ELX

How is this different from the 6K PA package?

The Logic System 6K comes with a DJ or sound engineer, stage monitors and CD playback - it is a staffed package. This rig is set up for you and left with you to run from the eight-channel desk. Both start at £395 plus VAT, so the choice usually comes down to whether someone needs to be at the desk during the event.

Can I add extra speakers?

Yes. Additional ELX115 tops are £25 plus VAT each, booked in pairs, which suits a long room where a second pair of tops further back keeps the level even down the space. Extra wireless microphones, microphone stands and CD players can be added to the same booking.

Will it work outside?

The rig goes on grass, concrete, hard flooring, artificial grass and wood chip, indoors or out. It needs power within cable reach - on a site with no mains, we can bring a generator, and it helps if you tell us everything that will be running off it so the size is right first time.

Which microphones come with it?

At least two wireless microphones, chosen as handheld, head-worn or lapel to suit whoever is speaking, plus wired microphones for a lectern or as a backup. A head-worn or lapel mic is the one to pick for a demonstrator who needs both hands free while they talk.

Build the Rest of the Setup

Staging, a lectern, power and cable protection to go with the PA, and the smaller and larger PA options if this one is the wrong size for the room.
