A Lectern To Speak From

The aluminium truss lectern in the photo is an OPTI Trilite 200, built by Optikinetics and finished in natural aluminium. It's the lectern most people end up hiring - stable, light enough for one person to carry into position, and up in a couple of minutes. If it looks familiar, that's because it's the conference podium you'll have seen at events up and down the country.

The top plate measures 460mm x 350mm with an adjustable reading angle, so it holds a printed script, a tablet or a laptop. It takes a clip-on or gooseneck microphone, and discreet cable management keeps the lead out of sight. Run it into one of our PA systems and a single speaker is heard across a full room.

We supply a few different lecterns to suit the look of the event, and this one is the most popular for conferences and award nights. A stainless steel truss lectern with the same practical layout is there for award nights and launches where you want a smarter finish, and our in-house team can usually add your logo or event signage to the front panel.

Building The Setup Around It

A lectern rarely turns up on its own. Most of the conferences and award nights we supply it to also need a stage to put it on, a PA and speakers so the room can hear, and often a sound engineer to look after the mix during the event. The medium PA system covers larger conference rooms, and if the speeches are running to a schedule, one of our countdown timers keeps speakers to time. We deliver across Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and the rest of the UK, and we're in and out of the conference venues most weeks - NEC Birmingham, Manchester Central, Telford International Centre and ExCeL London among them. Because the lectern, stage, PA and engineer all come from one place, you deal with one team and one invoice.

What It Costs

Hire starts from £30 plus VAT. Overnight hire is £25 extra if you want the lectern in place for an early start. A minimum spend can apply depending on where the event is, which is one reason most quotes are for the lectern alongside a stage or PA. We'll confirm the numbers when you enquire.

The lectern is our own stock, kept and maintained in our 25,000 sq ft warehouse in Rotherham just off the M1, where the business has been based since 1999. Around 95% of the equipment on this site is owned rather than sub-hired, so the lectern that arrives is the one in the photo.

It's the same story on bigger jobs. Darren Dawson booked us for a company-wide presentation and said: "Hired 200 chairs, stage, sound equipment and heaters for a motivational speaker to address the whole company." The setup went in well before the audience arrived, and the team came back after the event to clear everything away.

Lectern Hire Questions

What microphones work with the lectern?

The lectern takes a clip-on or gooseneck microphone as standard. Run it through one of our PA systems and we can add wired handheld, lapel (lavalier), headset or podium-mounted microphones, with a sound engineer available to keep the levels right during the event.

Can the lectern be branded with our logo?

Yes. The front panel comes in clear acrylic, and our in-house team can usually print your logo or event design onto it instead. Mention branding when you enquire and we'll price it into the same quote.

Who makes the aluminium truss lectern?

It's an OPTI Trilite 200 tri-truss lectern built by Optikinetics, the standard UK conference podium. It stands 985mm at the front and 1125mm at the highest point, with a 460mm x 350mm top plate, and weighs around 8kg so one person can carry it in and set it up.

Do I need a stage and PA with it?

Most lectern hires go out as a package, with a stage underneath and a PA alongside, because a lectern on its own is only half the presentation. In a small room the lectern and a single speaker can be enough. Tell us the venue and roughly how many people are coming and we'll spec it.
