A designated smoking area is one of those things facility managers have a duty to provide, and this is the low-fuss way to do it. The shelter is an 8x8ft container-style unit, all steel from the frame to the chequer-plate floor, which keeps it robust and keeps the fire risk down - there's nothing on it to burn.
Inside there's a shelf ledge to lean on and a built-in, easily emptied ashtray, which keeps cigarette ends in one place instead of scattered round the fire door. The open front and window openings keep the air moving while the roof keeps the weather off.
It sits on skids, so it can be forklifted or craned into position on any flat hard standing - the gallery photos show ours in place in the car parks of a working site.
