Table Shuffleboard Hire

Shuffleboard - also called table shuffleboard, American shuffleboard, or just shuffle board - is the pub game where you slide weighted pucks down a long waxed table toward the scoring end. The table's marked with zones worth one, two and three points, and you're trying to land your pucks in the higher scores while knocking your opponent's off. Only the player with the furthest puck scores each round, so there's a bit of strategy to it alongside the sliding.

Ours is a 9ft table - that's the full length of the playing surface, just under 2.7 metres. It comes with eight pucks (four red, four blue), the pushers to slide them with, and a tin of shuffleboard wax to keep the surface running smooth. Two players head-to-head, or you can play doubles with teams of two.

The game's been around since the 15th century, started on ships' decks, and the table version turned up in American bars and rec rooms. It's the sort of thing that pulls people in because it looks easy but takes a few goes to get the hang of, which is what makes it work at events where you want something social happening in the background.

Where it works

Shuffleboard suits events where you want something going on without it taking over. It doesn't need a supervisor explaining rules - people pick it up in about thirty seconds and then they're arguing about whether the puck was over the line. We've hired them for:

  • Corporate fun days and team-building events
  • Wedding receptions as a side game while guests mill about
  • Exhibition stands at NEC Birmingham, ExCeL London and Manchester Central
  • Office parties and Christmas events
  • School and university socials
  • Hospitality suites and break-out areas at conferences

It works because it's competitive without being physical, and a game is short enough that there's always someone waiting to have a go next. If you're running a tournament across a day, it fills the between-times nicely.

Branding

The table skirt and rail both take custom branding, printed and applied by our in-house team before delivery and removed afterwards. We've wrapped shuffle boards for corporate events where the client wanted their logo and colours running down the side of the table, and it turns a hire item into something that reads as part of your branded stand build rather than a piece of kit you've dropped in.

Size

Floor Space Height
Table size: 10ft x 2.5ft 3.2ft
Room to play: 14ft x 4ft -

The playing surface is 9ft (274cm) long by 20 inches (51cm) wide, which is the standard for a 9ft shuffleboard table. The overall table including the rails and gutters comes to about 10ft by 2.5ft. You'll want at least 2ft of clearance at each end for players to slide, and a bit of room either side.

The table folds and can be manoeuvred through a standard doorway, but it won't go up a flight of stairs or around a particularly tight corridor. Check your venue access with us before booking if the room is upstairs or awkwardly positioned.

What's included

  • Delivery, setup and collection by our own team in our own vehicles

  • 24hr telephone support throughout your event
  • £5M public liability insurance as standard
  • Risk assessments and method statements emailed to you or your venue before the event
  • Optional trained attendant to run the game hands-free, so your own team can stay on conversations

The hire price covers a 24-hour period, and longer hires are available. Putting several items on one delivery brings the per-item cost down, so contact us for a quote if you're building a wider package.

Suitability

  • Indoors on Artificial Grass
  • Indoors on Hard Surface
  • Outdoors on Grass
  • Outdoors on Hard Surface

Suitable for adults and children.

The table is designed for indoor use primarily, but the surface holds up to a day outside at a summer event. We'd recommend a cover or a shaded spot if it's going to be left out overnight, and avoid using it in rain - the wax and water don't mix well.

Common Questions

What's the difference between table shuffleboard and deck shuffleboard?

Table shuffleboard - the one we hire - is played on a long waxed wooden table where you slide pucks with your hands. Deck shuffleboard is the outdoor version played on a concrete court where you push discs with a long cue, like they do on cruise ships. Same basic idea, different equipment. The table version is what you'll find in pubs and bars, and it's the one that works well for events because it's self-contained and doesn't need much space.

How many people can play at once?

Two players head-to-head, or you can play doubles with teams of two. Each player gets four pucks per round - four red, four blue - and you take turns sliding them toward the scoring end. A round takes about five minutes, so there's a steady turnover if you've got a queue building.

Does the table need power?

No. The table itself is just a surface - there's nothing electronic in it, so it doesn't need a socket or a generator. That's one of the reasons it works well on exhibition stands and in marquees where power isn't always handy.

Can it be used outdoors?

The table is designed for indoor use primarily, but the surface holds up to a day outside at a summer event. We'd recommend a cover or some shade if it's going to be left out overnight, and avoid using it in rain - the wax and water don't mix well. If you're after something that's properly outdoor-rated, Giant Connect 4 or Giant Jenga might be better options.

How much space do we need around the table?

The table itself is 10ft long and 2.5ft wide. You'll want at least 2ft of clearance at each end for players to slide, and a bit of room either side for spectators. So a 14ft by 4ft space is the practical minimum. For a tournament setup with people standing around, a bit more room helps.
